ADHD Assessments

We offer comprehensive ADHD assessments for both adults and children (6+), delivered by experienced clinical psychologists. Our process is evidence-based, structured, and tailored to each individual, ensuring clarity, support, and diagnostic accuracy.

Please note that our team does NOT currently include practitioners who can prescribe medication for ADHD.

ADHD Assessment for Adults (18+)

Initial Consultation – 90 minutes | $400

Required for new clients only

This initial session is conducted by a clinical psychologist to determine whether an ADHD assessment is appropriate. If so, the psychologist will outline the full process and answer any questions you may have.

Comprehensive ADHD Assessment – $1,800

Includes clinical assessment sessions, one client and informant interview, a comprehensive diagnostic report, and a feedback session.

Step 1: Structured Clinical Assessment (90 minutes)

Administration of the Conners’ Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS) and a structured clinical interview to explore ADHD symptoms and other relevant psychological history.

Step 2: Joint Interview with the Client and Informant (50 minutes)

In this session, the client attends with one person who knows them well—such as a partner, family member, or close friend. This session allows the psychologist to gather additional insight into the client’s lifelong patterns of attention, behaviour, and executive functioning, helping to build a comprehensive picture across different contexts.

 Step 3: Clinical Report Writing

Your clinical psychologist will review and integrate all assessment data, collateral information, and clinical observations to formulate a clear diagnostic picture. A comprehensive ADHD assessment report is prepared.

Step 4: Feedback Session (50 minutes)

We’ll meet to discuss your results, the findings of the report, and—if ADHD is diagnosed—recommendations for support, treatment options, and next steps. Time will be provided for questions and clarity.

ADHD Assessment for Children (6–18 Years)

Initial Consultation – 90 minutes | $400

Required for new clients only

This session helps determine whether an ADHD assessment is warranted. We also gather developmental history, school functioning, and any relevant concerns. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend. If an assessment is recommended, families will be asked to provide school reports or additional documentation to support the process.

Comprehensive ADHD Assessment – $1,400

Includes clinical assessment sessions, standardized teacher input, a diagnostic report, and a feedback session.

Step 1: Structured Clinical Assessment (90 minutes)

The child meets with a clinical psychologist for observation and structured questioning. Standardized rating scales are used, including the Conners 4th Edition and CBCL (Child Behaviour Checklist). A CBCL Teacher Form will be provided for a teacher to complete.

An adult (parent/guardian) must attend this session to contribute vital background and behavioural information. The session will consist of clinical interviewing with the parent(s)/guardian(s), as well as one-on-one assessment with the child.

 Step 2: Clinical Report Writing

Your clinical psychologist integrates clinical observations, parent/guardian input, teacher feedback, and any supporting documents (e.g., school reports) into a comprehensive assessment report.

Step 3: Feedback Session (50 minutes)

The psychologist meets with the parent/guardian (and optionally the child) to go through the findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and evidence-based recommendations for school, home, and clinical support.

The Benefits of an ADHD Assessment

Understanding whether you or your child meet the criteria for ADHD can be a transformative step forward. Many individuals live with undiagnosed ADHD for years—navigating challenges in focus, memory, emotional regulation, and day-to-day functioning without knowing the underlying cause. An assessment can bring clarity and relief.

Here’s how an ADHD diagnosis can positively impact your life:

  • Self-Understanding – A diagnosis provides context for past experiences. It helps individuals make sense of long-standing difficulties and releases the burden of self-blame.
  • Targeted Support – With a formal diagnosis, individuals can access tailored interventions such as therapy, coaching, or medication. This leads to better management of symptoms and improved quality of life.
  • Improved Relationships – Greater understanding of ADHD can help families, partners, and educators develop more empathy and effective communication strategies.
  • Workplace and Academic Accommodations – Adults may become eligible for workplace adjustments. Children can benefit from educational support plans and classroom accommodations.
  • Confidence and Empowerment – Many people report feeling empowered after receiving a diagnosis—they can take ownership of their mental health journey and build strategies that work for their unique brain.

At Spencer Mental Healthcare, we’re here to walk with you through the journey—with clarity, compassion, and clinical expertise. Whether you’re seeking answers for yourself or your child, our ADHD assessment process is designed to provide insight, direction, and hope for what’s next.
